New things UI in Lollipop upgrade for Sony Xperia series

As Sony sources said in Dec2014 they are releasing Android lollipop upgrade for Sony Xperia series . A tweet from xperia series mentioned they are rolling out the update for Xperia Z3 and Z2 . You can check there project AOSP here.

Upgradable devices of Sony are as follows.

The Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3V, and the Xperia Z3 Compact.

Sony also providing the Lollipop upgrade 5.0 to Tablet also.

Let us see what are the enhancement done in Lollipop update.


Android lollipop is based on materialistic design (i.e card type design).  When you  open the UI it is something  like flat design for contact and arrow keys used for accessibility.

Notifications :

The revamp is made on notification bar in lollipop upgrade for Sony Xperia series.  Rather covering whole UI for bar it covers only part of phone. You can access the setting and useful tools by sliding notification bar. On screen lock the notification pop up on the main screen of device. You can clear it by sliding.

The main striking feature of Android Lollipop is ” when you are playing games or typing message, you got call from someone rather than stopping whole process it pop up the call info and gives user option to answer or reject the call.

ART and 64 bit support:

It was already present in Android Kitkat version but it was at run time but in Android L it comes by default all application will run in ART and 64bit mode.

Battery Saver:

As upgrade major enhancement made on battery consumption issue . Android Lollipop is comes with battery saving mode/ app which reduces the battery consumption.

USB audio Jack:

In Android lollipop upgrade Xperia series provide support for USB audio jack.


With Bluetooth 4.1 and upgraded software in Android L gives boost to data transfer speed to nearby devices.


SELinux provides strong protection against vulnerabilities and malware.

Use Android Smart Lock to secure your phone or tablet by pairing it with a trusted device like your wearable or even your car.

Language support:

available with 68 language support (new 15 language addition)
